The annual Blessing of the Animals took place Sunday at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis.

People of all faiths were able to bring the pets they love to get blessed and celebrate all of God’s creation.

Pet owner Charlie Hejny brought his boxer, Mia, to get blessed.

"The fact that a holy priest put his apostolic blessing on my animal, I find it pretty cool," he said.

The Blessing of the Animals is held each year on the first Sunday of October, close to the Oct. 4 Feast of St. Francis of Assisi — the patron saint of animals.
