Pedestrian dead after being struck by vehicle in Columbia Heights

A pedestrian died after being struck by a vehicle Wednesday night, said the Columbia Heights Police Department. 

According to police, at 9:54 p.m. officers and Allina EMS responded to a personal injury crash at the intersection of 42nd Avenue and Central Avenue NE  in the city of Columbia Heights. 

An uninvolved third party who had passed by the scene reported the incident. 

Once officers arrived at the scene, they learned the victim; an adult male pedestrian had been struck in the roadway by a Toyota Camry in the northbound lanes of Central Avenue. 

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The driver of the Toyota Camry has been identified as a 21-year-old male from Columbia Heights. The driver stopped after the incident and is cooperating with law enforcement. 

According to police, it is believed that alcohol is not a contributing factor in the crash. 

Authorities are working to determine the identity of the victim and the cause of the crash.

The crash will remain under investigation and the northbound lanes of Central Avenue will be temporarily shut down.
