The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board (MPRB) passed a plan on Wednesday committing to providing sanctuary space in Minneapolis parks for people currently experiencing homelessness.
Before the Powderhorn Park Sanctuary was established, the Park Police had enforced a camping prohibition within the park system.
Therefore, the commissioners passed a resolution affirming that areas in Minneapolis parks will be a refuge for people currently experiencing homelessness.
The Minneapolis City spokesperson released a statement that said MPRB is to coordinate with other agencies to pursue a long-term solution for residents of the sanctuary.
The Minnesota Department of Health is also providing public health support for those in the area.
