A puppy and its owner have been reunited thanks to the help of a conservation officer after the dog and its owner were separated Sunday night during a hike.

WDIO-TV reports Bogi, a 1-year-old Springer Spaniel, got loose from his leash and bolted from his owner, Julian Stanke, during a hike Sunday night. Stanke and his girlfriend searched for Bogi for several hours before finding him on a ledge about 30 feet down from them.

The couple brainstormed how to get to Bogi and asked for help on the Superior Hiking Trail's Facebook page.

"The incredible amount of support and care and love from all of the people was just incredible," Stanke told WDIO. "We had a lot of people offering to come help, offering to bring us gear, just sending well wishes to Bogi to us."

However, Stanke told WDIO they made the difficult choice to head home when it got dark, hoping that Bogi would be OK until morning.

"I can only imagine what that night was probably like for him being cold and wet and in the dark in a place he doesn't know," Stanke said. "Our biggest hope was that he was going to stay put."

When they got back Monday morning, the couple not only found Bogi right where they'd left him but also Mary Manning, a conservation officer who'd learned of the situation and was waiting to help them climb down to rescue Bogi.

Stanke told WDIO Bogi suffered only one scratch on his elbow, and added that he and his girlfriend are beyond grateful for the support.
