Last week, Carver County Water Management Organization staff removed over 2,000 goldfish that were spawning in Lake Hazeltine in Chaska.

The organization said it is working to remove a large amount of the fish while they are congregating for spawning purposes.

KSTP has previously reported on the removal of the invasive fish in the county.

Officials with the Carver County Water Management Organization told KSTP the problem likely started with someone innocently dumping an unwanted pet goldfish in Chaska's chain of lakes.

However, the fish are causing a serious problem for water quality. The fish, known for being a harmless pet at home, is a harmful invasive species in the wild.
