Minneapolis Public Schools releases new Comprehensive District Design plan

Minneapolis Public Schools on Friday unveiled its Comprehensive District Design proposal to the school board.

MPS tweeted, "We are in uncharted times as we address the Covid-19 pandemic. We understand this is a difficult & quickly changing time. A constant though is the need to reshape our district to provide an equitable, accessible, quality education to each and every student. Another constant is the need to retain a process that ensures change can be made, as committed, beginning in the 2021 school year. We are excited to share with you the Comprehensive District Design proposal to the School Board."

Petitions to delay vote on controversial Minneapolis Public Schools plan circling

The plan is a systematic, long-range plan the district uses to guide decision-making regarding academic quality, equity and sustainability of education, and highlights various goals, priorities, policies and programs.

It comes as petitions to delay a vote on the plan are circulating with parents asking district leaders to hold off on a vote because of what people are dealing with amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A school board member told KSTP earlier this week that a scheduled vote had been pushed back from this month to May.
