A Minneapolis Park Board member is calling for the removal of a statue from a park in Northeast Minneapolis.

According to a Facebook post, Commissioner Chris Meyers says the statue, called "Pioneers Statue" in BF Nelson Park, evokes "conquest and manifest destiny."

Meyers says that defacing the statue is not helpful and that he will ask park staff to consider ways to remove the statue.
