Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board warns of algae bloom in Cedar Lake

The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is warning parkgoers of what is likely a blue-green algae bloom in Cedar Lake.

According to park officials, the algae is actually a bacteria that produces toxins that can make humans and animals sick.

Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, rash, eye irritation, cough, sore throat and headaches.

The park board suggests following the Minnesota Department of Health’s guidelines of avoiding swimming if you can see your feet in knee-high water and to avoid letting dogs drink or swim in the water.
