Man sentenced for pushing woman out of moving vehicle in 2019

A man who was convicted of injuring a woman after shoving her out of a car in March 2019 has been sentenced.

Court records show Wilson Townsel, 59, was sentenced Friday to nine years in prison but the sentence was stayed for 10 years.


Townsel was also sentenced to 10 years of probation, as well as one year in Ramsey County Jail. Townsel currently has time served for 162 days.

According to a criminal complaint, on March 24, 2019, police were called to the area of Central Avenue West in St. Paul.

Upon arrival, officers found the woman with a "traumatic" head injury and medics were called.

The woman told authorities a man she knows, identified as Townsel, was driving his truck while she was in the passenger seat.

The woman said, at one point, Townsel was driving over the speed limit when he reached across the woman, opened the door and "shoved (the woman) out of the moving truck," the complaint states.

The woman said she was able to hold onto the truck for a short period of time before she fell onto the street.

In addition to her head injury, Regions Hospital doctors learned she had suffered a collapsed lung, a ruptured spleen, fractured ribs and cuts and scrapes, the complaint states.

It also states the woman remained intubated in the surgical intensive care unit for a long period of time.
