Man dead, woman seriously injured after crashing vehicle while fleeing police in Dakota County

A man is dead and a woman is seriously injured after their vehicle crashed while attempting to flee from authorities.

According to a release from the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, the Sheriff’s Office responded to a suspicion and suspected burglary at a building in the 26000 block of Donnelly Avenue in Hampton Township Thursday morning.

When deputies arrived they found a vehicle backed up to the building, a deputy attempted to block the vehicle in with his squad car, however, the driver fled and hit the squad car in the process.

The suspect vehicle fled northbound on Donnelly Avenue, which is a gravel road, at a high rate of speed.

The deputy followed the vehicle to identify it. As the deputy crested a hill north of the property, he found the suspect vehicle had left the road and rolled into a field. Both occupants in the vehicle were ejected. The man who was driving was found dead at the scene. The woman passenger sustained serious injuries.

The suspect vehicle had been reported stolen out of Minneapolis, police said.

This incident remains under investigation.
