A man is in custody after leading authorities on a chase before it ended in a crash early Wednesday morning in the south metro.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the incident happened along Highway 77 near Highway 13 in Eagan at about 1:21 a.m.

According to the police report, a trooper was driving southbound on Highway 77 at Highway 13 when the trooper saw an F-150 that was weaving out of the lane lines. The trooper activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the F-150. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop for authorities and accelerated in an attempt to flee.

The driver eventually exited the highway to Diffley Road. After fleeing on city streets, the driver got back onto the highway, heading southbound, before exiting again onto County Road 38. Shortly thereafter, the truck crashed into a building at the intersection of County Road 38 and County Road 5 in Burnsville. The state patrol squad also sustained damage in the crash.

The driver fled on foot from the scene but was eventually apprehended by the trooper and brought into custody. The 51-year-old man from Fairbault is at Hennepin County Medical Center as of late Wednesday morning to treat injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening. He is expected to be formally charged when medical care is no longer needed.

The trooper also sustained injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center.

Police also stated he showed signs of impairment. A blood sample was obtained and will be evaluated.

The incident remains under investigation.
