Officials said a crash that caused a bridge closure in Minneapolis Monday was fatal.

KSTP Traffic Reporter Josie Smith said the Lowry Avenue bridge, just east of Interstate 94 near Marshall Road, closed early Monday.

Minneapolis Police said the multiple vehicle crash happened at about 5:19 a.m. at Lowry Avenue and Marshall Street.

One vehicle caught fire and was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

According to police, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's identity will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office at a later date.

Preliminary investigation indicates a westbound vehicle and a southbound vehicle collided, spinning one of the vehicles and hitting another vehicle that was eastbound.
