Jerky recall may affect PGA golfers, events

A jerky company recalled more than 100 pounds of beef jerky Saturday.

Wariness over undeclared allergens and misbranding led Top Notch Jerky LLC to recall their ready-to-eat buffalo style flank steak beef jerky produced on July 12. During a routine check, the Food Safety and Inspection Service determined that labels didn’t list all sub-ingredients, including a known allergen, anchovies.

FSIS is also concerned that the jerky would be damaging to golfers. This batch was intended for and shipped to PGA events in Minneapolis, Minn. and Memphis, Tenn. They are encouraging athletes, trainers and staff to either throw out or return the jerky. None of the products were available through retailers.

The recall includes both 1 oz. and 2.25 oz. bags of Kingmade Jerky Buffalo Style in Lot 071221 and list the number EST. 20290 on the back of the bag.

No adverse reactions or illnesses have been reported.
