One group raised concerns Tuesday over phasing out the current eviction moratorium in Minnesota.

Members of Equity in Place Coalition held a news conference. The group wants no evictions until every eligible Minnesotan gets housing assistance.

"Our state is strong when everyone is housed," Owen Duckworth, with Equity in Place Coalition said. "We demand the eviction moratorium prioritizes racial equity and prioritizes housing stability."

Analysis shows that without eviction moratorium, Minnesota would be looking at more than 10,000 evictions

The group says the state moratorium has helped save lives since the pandemic started.

"As the legislation negotiates the end of this eviction moratorium, we are really here to say no evictions," Duckworth said.

Gov. Tim Walz’s eviction ban stays in place as long as a peacetime state of emergency exists.
