Edina home suffers ‘moderate’ damage after overnight fire

A home in Edina suffered some damage after it caught fire overnight.

According to the city of Edina, firefighters were called just after midnight Monday on the report of a fire on the 5200 block of Halifax Avenue South.

The city said the residents of the home discovered the fire in their basement and called 911. All four members of the family were able to safely evacuate the home.

When firefighters arrived, they were able to extinguish the fire.

The city said the home’s basement suffered moderate damage, while the remainder of the house suffered heat and smoke damage.

One member of the household suffered a small first- to second-degree burn while trying to extinguish the fire.
