A dead cougar was found Tuesday in Bloomington, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The DNR says it is believed the big cat was hit and killed by a vehicle near the interchange at interstates 494 and 35W.

The 115-pound animal was taken to the DNR Wildlife Research Office in Grand Rapids. There, the cougar will undergo a necropsy to determine if it is wild and where it might have originated.

The DNR says there are verified cougars in Minnesota; however, it is believed most of them are transient animals from the Dakotas.
