Community activists are pleading for change after another young child was shot this weekend in Minneapolis.

A 3-year-old boy was one of two people injured in a Friday night shooting near North Emerson and 33rd avenues. A man believed to be in his 30s was also wounded.

Officers rushed the boy to the hospital in critical condition, but both he and the adult victim are expected to survive.

"We’re sick and tired of the shootings of our children," said the Rev. Harding Smith with Spiritual Church of God. "We are sick and tired of the shootings of our young boys and girls."

"We need to raise above the violence and quit killing our own," said Belinda Hoover of Minneapolis. "We’re demolishing our own people, destroying children’s lives. That’s not what God came for."

Friday’s incident marks the fifth child shot in Minneapolis in recent months.

Two young girls, 6-year-old Aniya Allen and 9-year-old Trinity Ottoson-Smith were killed in separate shootings in May. Ten-year-old Ladavionne Garrett Jr. has been recovering since he was shot in late April, and a 9-month-old child suffered a graze wound during a shooting on July 2.

No arrests have been made in any of those cases.
