City of Crystal approves picketing ban in targeted residential neighborhoods

The Crystal City Council last week approved the second reading of an amendment to Chapter 9 of the city code, allowing for language that will prohibit targeted residential picketing within the city.

The proposal passed on June 2 with a 4-2 vote. The move following the lead of other suburban Minnesota cities, such as Vadnais Heights, Lino Lakes, Shoreview and Spring Lake Park.

On May 18, the city council gave initial approval to an ordinance change that would ban "marching or picketing outside someone’s home" in the city.

The ordinance makes residential picketing a misdemeanor crime.
