Bus and light rail workers say they’re prepared to go on strike after the union representing them rejected a contract proposal by Metro Transit.

The union stated it’s fighting for a contract that reflects the risk taken every day by workers during the pandemic and social unrest.

The vote this week calls for Metro Transit to return to the bargaining table and authorizes a possible strike if a deal is not reached.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Council said, in part, "Metro Transit has provided a reasonable and responsible offer that balances the unprecedented fiscal pressures facing Metro Transit, with the value we place on our employees during this pandemic."
