Ayd Mill Road in St. Paul to reopen Saturday

Part of Ayd Mill Road in St. Paul that was closed this fall will reopen Saturday at 7 a.m.

A 1.5-mile portion of the road, stretching from Interstate 35E to Selby Avenue, closed in August.

Ayd Mill Road closure in St. Paul in place until November

During the closure, crews built a three-lane street design—two southbound vehicle lanes and one northbound lane—as well as a median that is 11 feet wide and a trail for pedestrians and bicyclists that is 12 feet wide.

In addition to the construction, St. Paul Public Works stated the speed limit along the stretch of road will drop to 35 mph. The speed limit change is the result of the change in design and "takes into account user safety, roadway access, roadway design, and adjacent land use," a statement from the department reads.

To mark the reopening, St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter has invited the community to participate in a socially-distanced bike ride or walk along the new trail, from 9-11 a.m., starting at the Eleanor Graham Community Garden.

"Ayd Mill Road has challenged our city for over a generation," Carter said in a statement. "Reimagining this critical route as a complete street we can all use and enjoy demonstrates our community’s commitment to our residents and our planet alike."
