Alcohol use suspected in ATV crash that injured 2

Two people were injured Saturday after an ATV crash in rural Pequot Lakes.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to a home on 17th Avenue Southwest at about 7:34 p.m.

Authorities learned an Arctic Cat 500 ATV was operating on the driveway when the driver sharply turned, causing the machine to roll. Both people were thrown from the ATV and became pinned after it rolled on them.

The sheriff’s office said a person in the area heard the crash, responded and was able to get the ATV off the victims to start administering aid.

The driver, a 58-year-old woman, was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital with unknown injuries. The passenger, a 59-year-old man, was airlifted to a hospital with serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities said alcohol appears to have been a factor in the crash, but an investigation remains ongoing.
