Four students and a pickup truck driver involved in a Clay County crash with a school bus were taken to area hospitals Thursday morning.

According to the Clay County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the intersection of 190th Avenue North and 40th Street at about 7:30 a.m. on a report of a crash involving a school bus.

Upon arrival, deputies found four students and a pickup truck driver who were hurt and were being attended to by passing drivers.

The Ada-Borup-West School District stated some of the injuries the four students suffered were serious, but not considered to be life-threatening. The sheriff's office confirmed one student was airlifted to a Fargo-area hospital, two were transported to Sanford Medical Center, and one was transported to a nearby hospital via a Norman County ambulance. The pickup truck driver was also transported to a Fargo hospital, according to the sheriff's office. All suffered injuries not considered to be life-threatening, the sheriff's office confirmed.

According to the sheriff's office, the pickup truck driver was traveling north along 40th Street while the school bus was traveling east toward the intersection. The sheriff's office reported the intersection does not have a yield sign for northbound and southbound traffic.

The sheriff's office stated an investigation into the exact series of events leading up to the crash is underway, adding deputies will be reviewing video from the school bus.

Other students on the bus were picked up by their parents or guardians, the school district stated.

Local police, firefighters and emergency first responders also responded to the scene.
