4 charged with assault, attempted murder in southeast Minnesota beatings

Four people are charged with assault and attempted murder after they allegedly beat two people with baseball bats earlier this month.

Court records show 50-year-old Daniel Walter Luhmann, 40-year-old Joshua Daniel Larson, 30-year-old Elliott Bertram Glamm and 34-year-old Stephanie Lucille Larson are each charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder, one count of first-degree assault and one count of second-degree assault. Joshua Larson is also charged with one count of felon in possession of a firearm.

The group is accused of assaulting two men with baseball bats in Hammond on Sept. 6.

A criminal complaint states one of the men suffered a broken jaw, broken cheekbone, fractured eye socket, skull fractures and various bruises and scrapes. The other victim had injuries including puncture marks to his head, side and buttocks consistent with being struck by a wooden handle or baseball bat that had nails pounded through it. The victims identified Luhmann, Glamm and the Larsons as being the ones who attacked them.

One of the victims told authorities that he saw Glamm trying to get the other victim to follow him. Two other people also were there and got into a verbal altercation with the victim before one of them offered to fight the victim, who allegedly responded, "What? Three against one?" The other victim said he then saw others approach the group with baseball bats and assaulting the victim with the bats. The other victim ran to help and was also assaulted.

The girlfriend of one of the victims told authorities that she heard a noise and then saw the group assaulting the two victims. She said she threatened to call the police but the group ignored her and continued assaulting the victims. Eventually, the group left and the victims went to the hospital. The girlfriend grabbed a bat that was left behind and later gave it to authorities before going to the hospital with the victims.

A search warrant was later executed at the Larsons’ home and authorities found a .22 caliber gun. The complaint also states that Joshua Larson has been convicted of assault four other times in the past.
