2 injured after motorcycle hits dog in Stearns County

Two people were taken to a hospital after the motorcycle they were on crashed when swerving to avoid a dog that ran into traffic in Brockway Township.

The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to the 38000 block of 75th Avenue at about 9:36 a.m. Saturday for a reported motorcycle crash.

According to the sheriff’s office, a group of 10 motorcycles were traveling north on 75th Avenue when a young golden retriever ran into the road toward them. One of the motorcycles in the group on the outside of the traffic lane attempted to swerve and miss the dog but struck it, then tipped and slid to a stop.

After the dog was hit, it ran toward a home where it later died, the sheriff’s office said.

The two passengers of the motorcycle were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The sheriff’s office noted neither of the passengers were wearing a helmet.
