Minnesota Moment: Twin Cities pilots soaring above the ground and their competition

June 06, 2019 10:29 PM

Up, up and away! Two Minnesota men are soaring high above the ground and their competition in the latest Minnesota Moment.

Barry Jaeger and Dick Andrews are co-pilots of a glider.

After getting the small plane off the ground, the engine cuts out and the plane relies on warm air to stay aloft.

Jaeger and Andrews don't just do it for fun, though, they actually won a national tournament in Albert Lea for this type of flying, known as soaring.

The two said the planes are really dependent on sunshine, so they're hoping for a lot of nice, beautiful weather this summer.
