The St. Paul Winter Carnival has a new Klondike Kate this year.

The winner this year was one of five women competing for the honor of becoming Klondike Kate 2020.

They were judged on performance, costume and crowd appeal. Shelley Pabst, from South St. Paul, was elected the winner for this year's event.

Pabst will be the 50th Klondike Kate.

The event will kick off on Jan. 23.

5 EYEWITNESS NEWS is proud to be a media partner of this year's Winter Carnival.

Editor's note: The original version of this story incorrectly stated the number of women competing to become Klondike Kate. The text has been updated to correctly show that five women competed for the title.
