Minnesota Moment: Couple collects for Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley

May 02, 2019 10:27 PM

Husband and wife Nils and Jan Anderson have a mission of love 45 years in the making.

The local couple started collecting money in the mid-1970's for the Animal Humane Society in Golden Valley. The couple, every year, goes door-to-door collecting money.

This year they are close to reaching a milestone: a total of a million dollars over all of their years collecting. They are about $20,000 short right now.

The couple is hoping to raise the rest of the money this week for the Animal Humane Society's 'Walk For Animals' this weekend. Many of the people who donate to them have been doing so for years. In fact, this year one donor gave $25,000 to help them reach their million dollar total.

"We love the animals and the human bond," Nils said.
