One of two medical marijuana companies licensed in Minnesota said it has experienced some unforeseen laboratory delays, causing a delay in filling some prescriptions.
LeafLine Labs CEO and Chief Medical Officer Dr. Andrew Bachman said in a written statement, "As part of our unwavering commitment to the highest quality standards, LeafLine Labs submits medicine samples for state-mandated third party lab testing. LeafLine Labs has plenty of inventory, but due to some unforeseen delays at the lab, including the recent holiday, we are still waiting for our certificate of analysis to release more product to our patients ... We sincerely apologize to our patients who are inconvenienced by any delays, but will never compromise on patient safety and program compliance. We are actively working to reschedule appointments."
Leafline said its Eagan office will be closed until Friday, but all other facilities they operate remain open across the state.
Kellie Casey has a medical marijuana prescription and uses LeafLine Labs. She was disappointed when she called LeafLine early Tuesday morning to have her prescription refilled.
"My heart dropped into my stomach and I was in a moment of panic, because my prescription is everything to me," Casey said. "It is my lifeline, really."
Casey said she suffers symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder and uses medical cannabis every day.
"I can go through my day without anxiety, I can eat, I can sleep better and not feel so exhausted," she said. "And it just really allows me to function in society every day at a level that is not filled with anxiety."
Casey said she feels let down by LeafLine and was advised by the Minnesota Department of Health to fill out a complaint form so the state can look into the matter.
KSTP reached out to the Minnesota Department of Health for comment, but has yet to hear back.
