According to the report, 117 people were hospitalized with the flu the most recent week, up from 114 last week. A total of 505 people have been hospitalized with the flu this season, according to MDH.

"Last week was actually a big week for flu in Minnesota," said Dr. Krishnan Subrahmanian, a pediatrician with Hennepin County Medical Center.

"We're still seeing a lot of Influenza B, but other types of influenza are making a surge in the past couple weeks," said Subrahmanian. "The short of it is we're just seeing a lot of flu in the community, in the hospital and around the state."

According to Dr. Subrahmanian, it's unusual to see the Influenza B virus this time of year.

"We've seen a weird pattern, an interesting pattern this year, in that we had a lot of Influenza B, which we usually see later in the season in the February and March time."

MDH confirms another flu-related death in Minnesota as flu reports continue to rise

Minnesota is one of 28 jurisdictions to experience high influenza-like illness activity. The jurisdictions include 25 states, as well as Puerto Rico, New York City and District of Columbia.
