Once again this year, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS is helping out in the effort to find a cure for type 1 diabetes.

In advance of the event, KSTP's  Chris Egert took a closer look at NanoVault's encapsulation device.

The Minnesota-based company is testing a new metallic capsule that would produce insulin - an alternative to using synthetic insulin and having to inject it.

Encapsulation is one method of treatment JDRF is investing research dollars on that could dramatically decrease insulin dependence.

Egert will lead Team KSTP at Saturday's event. The goal is to raise $1.7 million to help such life-saving research continue.
