Sunday started with temperatures in the teens, and a spring storm is expected to bring a mix of freezing rain and snow this week.

Meteorologist Jonathan Yuhas said Sunday is expected to be sunny and unseasonably cold with lighter winds and a high of 32 degrees.

The next chance for rain, Yuhas said, is Tuesday afternoon and evening. Then, freezing rain and snow are expected Wednesday afternoon into early Thursday morning. Snow mixed with drizzle and sleet is likely Thursday, along with high winds over 30 mph from the north.

As of Sunday, Yuhas said it appears the Twin Cities could see 1-4 inches of snow, with the heaviest snowfall of 6 inches or more along a line from Fargo to Brainerd to Hinckley to Rice Lake, Wisconsin, as well as areas north, including Duluth, Hibbing, the North Shore and Hayward, Wisconsin.

This week, the upcoming storm is expected to cover the Midwest and bring severe thunderstorms south of Minnesota.

Calmer weather is expected by Friday into the upcoming weekend, with temperatures into the 40s Friday and Saturday, then 50s Sunday.
