A St. Paul woman is stuck with repairing her home after the driver of a stolen SUV crashed into the side of her house Thursday night.

The shocking moments were caught on camera.

“I was literally just falling asleep, and out of nowhere, I heard a loud crash noise,” said Rylee Doroff, the homeowner.

Doroff was right upstairs when it happened.

“I’m shaking. I am blessed to still be alive. That’s for sure. I definitely have a guardian angel over me,” Doroff said. “Normally, I have renters. They just moved out July 1, so they are thankfully gone. They are safe. Nobody was downstairs.”

Around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, St. Paul police said they found the stolen vehicle on the east side. The suspect fled, and the officers followed, according to the report.

Police said shortly after, the driver tried to go west on Ames Avenue but lost control. The suspect crashed a white Kia SUV into a house on the southwest corner of Ames and White Bear Avenue.

Doroff said it’s not the first time there was a close call near her home.

“About a month ago. There was an accident that happened right here,” she said. “They hit the red stop light here, and he almost hit my house.”

She explained people speed down White Bear Avenue daily, and hopefully, this is a wake-up call to slow down.

“You got places to be, but people’s lives are on these roads too, and mine almost was taken from me last night because of somebody’s reckless driving,” she said.

FIVE EYEWITNESS NEWS spoke to the stolen SUV’s owner over the phone. He said the car was stolen out of his garage Thursday night.

St. Paul police say a K-9 unit was used to try and track the suspect with the help of the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter.

Police say no arrests have been made as of Friday.
