There are many places across Minnesota to see a concert but one venue has an incredible history tied to the early days of rock ‘n’ roll.

The Kato Ballroom in Mankato is a Minnesota music landmark.

Several big names have performed at the Kato Ballroom over the decades, including the Everly Brothers, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash.

So Minnesota

Rock ‘n’ roll legends Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper took the stage about a week before a tragic plane crash killed all three.

Tania Cordes bought the ballroom eight years ago.

"I love people, I like entertaining, for me it’s been a dream," Cordes said. "I knew almost nothing about the Kato Ballroom when I took it over."

After being closed for the pandemic, the Kato Ballroom is reopening for concerts, musical theater and wedding receptions.
