UPDATE: Suspect is in custody after incident that caused Pine Island to shelter in place, Sheriff’s Office says

A suspect was taken into custody and there is no further concern for the Pine Island community’s public safety, according to a post from the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office at about 8:20 p.m. Saturday.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office was asking residents in southeast Pine Island to shelter in place, according to a post on their Facebook page.

A news release sent after 9 p.m. on Saturday said that law enforcement took the suspect into custody after receiving a signed warrant from an Olmsted County judge.

SWAT teams then deployed less-lethal rounds, and the suspect returned fire, reportedly striking law enforcement vehicles.

No one was injured, and the suspect surrendered.

Deputies said they responded to a house for a “possible domestic dispute” Saturday morning and that one person made threats to law enforcement involving firearms. That person also claimed to be holding a hostage.

A SWAT team from both Goodhue and Olmsted Counties responded, and it was later determined there was only one person in the house.

A “CodeRED Alert” was sent by law enforcement and reached beyond this area of Pine Island. If you received a message and are not in the southeast part of Pine Island, you’re asked to disregard the message. The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office said the message mistakenly reached a larger part of the state than intended.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office said the BCA will assist with any further investigation.
