Sources: Lobbyist arrested after sending threatening text

State Capitol threat arrest

A lobbyist is in custody after a constituent of state Rep. Jim Nash (R-Waconia) received a “threat of violence” toward the State Capitol on Wednesday.

Jonathan Michael Bohn, 41, of Woodbury, was arrested Wednesday evening and booked into Carver County Jail on suspicion of threats of violence.

State representative Nash told law enforcement that one of his constituents got a text message on their personal phone that was “threatening in nature” on Wednesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for House Republicans says the threat was not aimed at any specific lawmaker.

As of Thursday night, Bohn is listed as the public affairs director of the Inter Faculty Organization, where it states, in part, about his work at the Capitol, “In the halls of the Capitol, Jonathan is regarded as a well-connected advocate who has worked on a variety of issues leading to legislative victories.”

Minnesota campaign finance board records show Bohn has made multiple donations to DFL campaigns.

The Minnesota DFL sent the following statement on Thursday: “Violent threats have no place in our politics and we condemn them unequivocally, no matter who makes them or whom they’re directed toward.”

Bohn has not been officially charged as of Thursday evening.

The arrest comes not a week from the assassination of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, and the shootings of Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette

Former Secret Service member and current CEO of 360 Security Services, Mike Olson, tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that political threats are up, and that everyone can make a difference.

“These days, it’s never [truer], I mean, people can’t be afraid to pick up the phone and report things,” Olson said.

“You don’t have to be right, that’s somebody else’s job to determine [that],” Olson added. “You can’t question when that hair on the back of your neck goes up to not want to pick up the phone and report it to somebody.”
