An iconic St. Paul restaurant is hoping to open by the spring.

More than $70,000 has been raised for Mickey’s Diner through a GoFundMe page.

Owners Eric Mattson and his daughter, Melissa, had to close down after the pandemic left the diner struggling to keep afloat.

The Mattsons plan to renovate the diner to its 1950s look but with a top-of-the-line heating and cooling system.

"I want to get the place back up and running, but I’d like it to be a museum when we get done," Eric Mattson said. "I’d like it to be perfect. I’d like it to be the way it was."

"It’s a labor of love," Melissa Mattson said. "It really is. It’s not a job right now. It’s keeping the building alive."

The Mattsons say construction delays and supply chain issues have forced them to push back the opening date till next spring.
