UPDATE: Man arrested after allegedly escaping from Anoka County Jail

UPDATE: The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said the escaped inmate was taken into custody shortly after 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday.

A man reportedly escaped from the Anoka County Jail through the sally port around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement is responding to an escaped inmate in the downtown Anoka area. Please avoid the area at this time. More information to follow.

Authorities are currently engaged in an “intense search” in the area near the jail and courthouse involving other agencies.

The escaped inmate is described as a Black male in and orange jumpsuit. He was reportedly still in handcuffs when he escaped.

Law enforcement said there is no outstanding danger to the public.
