Golden Valley police are investigating an incident that involved at least one person firing at officers.

According to police, officers were called to a report of a suspicious car around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday near Major Avenue N. and Elmdale Road.

When they arrived, officers found the car, but the people inside drove off and crashed into a snowbank.

Officials say one person got out of the car and fired at least five rounds at officers striking and damaging a squad car.

No officers were hit, and police say they did not fire back.

Law enforcement located and arrested a 30-year-old suspect in a nearby neighborhood with the help of K-9s and the State Patrol helicopter.

A second person was taken into custody from the vehicle without incident.

Golden Valley Interim Police Chief Scott Nadeau thanked a citizen for calling in the suspicious vehicle and added “while this event is unusual in our community, we encourage our residents to be vigilant and call when they see suspicious behavior.”

Police say charges for the two suspects, Marlon Collins of Brooklyn Park and Maiyah Earney of Minnetonka, are currently pending with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office.
