Daugherty was 38 years old when she was found dead inside her home on July 16, 1986. Investigators collected DNA from more than 100 people over the years but it wasn’t until 2020 that Carbo was identified as a potential suspect after authorities got help from a company that analyzes public genealogy databases.

Carbo remains at the St. Louis County Jail on a $1 million bond.

His sentencing is set for Sept. 30.
