Burnsville police say a man was found dead on Thursday evening following an hours-long apparent standoff.

Police responded to the 200 block of Carriage Lane around 6 p.m. for an “active situation.”

Just after 10 p.m., law enforcement said a man was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the scene on Carriage Lane.

The scene at the 200 block of Carriage Lane is now secure. One male was found deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. There is no threat to the public. The scene remains active. Thank you to the community and public safety partners for their assistance.

There is no danger to the public at this time, police said.

It’s unclear what type of active situation police were dealing with. In a video sent to 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS by John Magnuson, many law enforcement vehicles were seen on the block.
