BCA investigating after law enforcement fatally shoots man in New Auburn

The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office said that a welfare check led to law enforcement being at a home for 10 hours before they shot and killed a man inside.

A news release from the sheriff’s office said that deputies began assisting with the welfare check at a home in the 8200 block of 3rd Street in New Auburn at about 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The sheriff’s office said that law enforcement “was involved in a situation where force was used which resulted in the death of an adult male at the same residence” just after midnight on Thursday.

It is not yet known how many deputies discharged their weapons or whether the deceased man was armed.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident.
