There’s a mystery brewing in the metro as multiple communities prepare to welcome an unnamed grocery store to town.
The new store could change the way you buy groceries.
Coon Rapids city leaders say they’ve heard reports that Amazon Fresh could be moving into the former JCPenney store at Riverdale Village mall.
Amazon Fresh has a checkout-free concept. Shopping carts are equipped with scanners and cameras. When people leave, they go through speed lanes, which automatically process the transactions.
"I think the city would be very excited to have Amazon Fresh in our community," Grant Fernelius, Coon Rapids community development director, said. "Just the fact we would have more choices and more competition, which is good for consumers."
5 EYEWITNESS NEWS has learned there are building plans in Eagan and Burnsville to accommodate a national grocer. KSTP reached out to Amazon but hasn’t heard back.
