Why We Give: American Cancer Society

Every year, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS highlights the work that local organizations are doing.

It’s part of our Why We Give series.

KSTP Anchor and Reporter Brett Hoffland shows how the American Cancer Society is making a difference in many lives — including his.

Brett, himself, was diagnosed with testicular cancer last year. After months of chemotherapy, today, he’s healthy and feeling great, but it reinforces how crucial the work of the American Cancer Society is.

The organization says one in three people are diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. The encouraging news is there are nearly 17 million cancer survivors still alive today.

From encouraging prevention to providing personal support for families and advancing cancer research, those at the American Cancer Society are working to make a difference.
