Walz orders flags at half-staff in honor of paramedic killed in Itasca County crash

Gov. Tim Walz has ordered all U.S. and state flags to be flown at half staff in honor of a paramedic who was killed in a crash in Itasca County this week.

Flags at all state and federal buildings will fly at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on Monday in remembrance of Troy Boettcher.

Boettcher died after an ambulance and dump truck collided on Tuesday at the intersection of County Road 336 and County Road 57.

"Troy Boettcher was an outstanding paramedic, who was admired and respected by his colleagues, and served with dignity and pride," the proclamation issued by Walz states. "The State of Minnesota recognizes Paramedic Boettcher for his dedicated service to and sacrifice for, his fellow citizens with its deepest gratitude, and all thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and the entire community."

Boettcher had worked for the Grand Rapids Meds-1 Ambulance Service and in the EMS industry for 23 years.

Individuals, businesses and others are also encouraged to lower their flags in honor of Boettcher.
