UPDATE: Person rescued from St. Paul apartment fire has died

UPDATE: The St. Paul Fire Department confirmed the person rescued from Monday night’s apartment fire has died.

A cat inside the apartment also died from smoke inhalation.


Monday night, St. Paul firefighters responded to an apartment fire and rescued one person.

Firefighters said the call came just before 9:30 p.m.

When firefighters responded to the 200 block of Western Avenue North in St. Paul, they reported seeing the fire on the fourth floor of the apartment building.

Firefighters forced entry and the person rescued was taken to the hospital. According to an update Tuesday, the person remains in the hospital.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, though firefighters said a preliminary investigation revealed cigarettes may have been the cause.

No other injuries were reported.
