Trial continued for man accused of killing Bloomington hockey coach
UPDATE: Whisler’s trial was rescheduled Monday after the defense’s request for a continuance was granted.
A case review is now set for Sept. 6.
Court records show a trial for the man accused of killing a Bloomington hockey coach is expected to begin Monday.
Ryan Whisler, 43, of St. Paul is accused of getting into an altercation with 48-year-old Michael Ryan of Bloomington in April of 2021 at a downtown St. Paul bar.
As previously reported, witnesses say Ryan fell and hit his head at that time. He was then taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.
Whisler turned himself in to police the day after the altercation.
He was then booked and charged with second-degree murder.
