Target announces initiative to replace single-use packaging

Consumers who want to cut down on their plastic waste will have an easier time finding products and packaging allowing them to do so.

According to Target, a new icon will be placed on products designed to lower waste, and the initial rollout will include products in beauty, personal care and household essentials.

Products and packaging designed to be reusable, refillable or compostable will have a “Target Zero icon,” and will be made either from recycled content, or with materials that reduce the use of plastic.

The Target Zero icon will also be featured online.

Company officials say the initiative is part of Target’s goal to have 100% of its owned brand plastic packaging be recyclable, compostable or reusable by 2025.

According to the company, customers may have already seen products with the icon in stores, since it started being used in late February.
