St. Paul police: Man arrested after overnight car chase

St. Paul police arrested a man early Tuesday morning and are looking for another after a report of a gunshot led to a vehicle chase, the department tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.

Late Monday night, just before midnight, police went to the 1200 block of Virginia Street after a woman reported that her ex-boyfriend had shot at her.

Police say they learned the man lived on the 2000 block of Wilson Avenue, and when they arrived at his home, a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle drove off. Authorities followed the vehicle.

A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer witnessed cars from both the St. Paul Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol involved in the chase. St. Paul police say additional agencies assisted.

Officers caught the driver sometime early Tuesday morning after he stopped the vehicle near Shepard Road and Otto Avenue and ran.

Although police say they learned the driver was not involved in the alleged shot fired incident, the driver was booked into Ramsey County Jail due to multiple outstanding felony warrants.

The outstanding warrants for the 32-year-old driver were for felony drugs and felony fleeing police in a motor vehicle, according to the incident report.

Police tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS they are still looking for the man connected to the possible shot fired incident. That incident remains under investigation and police are working to learn the relationship between the incident and the vehicle chase.
