Mankato police searching for suspect in Friday morning shooting

UPDATE: Authorities are searching for a suspect in a shooting Friday morning that led to a shelter-in-place order and a lockdown at Mayo Clinic in Mankato.

Mankato Public Safety said Bashir Mohamed is believed to have been involved in a shooting before 9 a.m. in the 100 block of Echo Street.

The victim, who knows Mohamed, was taken to a hospital with injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening.

According to Mankato Public Safety, Mohamed is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees him should stay away and call 911.

Officials say he’s believed to be driving a 2010, gray four-door Honda Accord with the Minnesota license plate number WV2568.

The shooting led to shelter-in-place order that wasn’t lifted until early Friday afternoon. It also caused the nearby Mankato Mayo Clinic campus to go into a lockdown, which was lifted shortly before 1 p.m. Normal operations have since resumed at the hospital.

INITIAL REPORT 10:46 a.m.: The Mankato Department of Public Safety says they issued a shelter in place for an area near the city’s Mayo Clinic campus following the report of a gunshot wound.

The city tweeted at 10:50 a.m. saying the incident is active and police are at the scene. People in and around Echo Street are asked to continue to shelter in place for their safety.

Mayo Clinic Health System says its Mankato hospital is on lockdown due to a shooting at a nearby apartment complex.

According to Mayo Clinic, patients with scheduled appointments are still able to access the clinic but will be screened when entering.
