Sheriff: Boy shot and seriously injured in hunting accident

A 12-year-old boy was airlifted to a hospital Sunday morning with a life-threatening injury after authorities say he was accidentally shot by his uncle during a hunting trip.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and medical personnel were called to an area of public land in rural Motley at around 8:20 a.m.

Deputies learned a family from St. Paul was hunting squirrels when the 12-year-old was accidentally shot by his uncle.

Authorities rendered first aid until medics arrived. The boy was then taken to meet a nearby helicopter and then airlifted to a hospital in the Twin Cities area.

The sheriff’s office says early indications are the shooting was an accident but the shooting remains under investigation.
